Why Do I Need a Glass Fireplace Door?

Stoll Fireplace Glass Door
SAFETY . ENERGY . BEAUTY

~ Safety ~
Few things in life are more comforting and endearing then a hot, crackling fire on a cold winter day. At the same time, we all know there is an element of danger to an open fire. Our positive latching cabinet mesh doors keep logs inside the fireplace and children and pets out of the fire even when the glass doors are open. So you can enjoy your fireplace with complete peace of mind. Stoll.

~ Energy ~
A properly designed fireplace will naturally draw air from the home to vent smoke. This also means that when a fire is not burning, your climate controlled air (warm in the winter and cool in the summer) will be escaping your home via the chimney. An open fireplace is like an open window; properly installed glass fireplace doors can reduce air flow through the fireplace opening by up to 99%.

~ Beauty ~
The best thing about a glass fireplace door is that you can have safety and energy with beauty. Too often in life, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Not true with a glass fireplace door. With various designs from simple to ornate, antique to modern, and a large palette of colors and trim accents, a Stoll glass door will add an impressive accent to the overall "feel" of your fireplace room.

BEAUTY ~
With designs that range from simple to ornate, antique to modern, Stoll's custom fireplace doors and screens will accent your fireplace and fit your decor. SAFETY ~
Our glass doors come standard with a high quality cabinet mesh door to enhance the safety of your fireplace. These screens have a positive latch system that creates a strong barrier that keeps logs from rolling onto the hearth and eliminates jumping sparks. You can confidently enjoy your beautiful fireplace because of the safety added by a glass fireplace door.

ENERGY ~
An open fireplace may allow climate-controlled interior air to escape through the chimney. Properly installed glass fireplace doors can reduce the loss of your climate-controlled air by as much as 99%. Couple this with one of our heater units products to recover heat generated by your fireplace and you can significantly alter your energy usage.

Choosing A Door

Before you select a door for your fireplace you’ll need to know what type of fireplace you have. There are two types of wood burning fireplaces: Masonry and Zero Clearance.

Masonry Fireplaces are either constructed of brick or stone and a door can be made to overlap the fireplace opening or fit inside which is common on stone fireplaces. Installing a door on a masonry fireplace will increase the energy efficiency of our fireplace.

Zero Clearance (also called ZC fireplaces) are factory built, metal fireplace boxes. All Zero Clearance or ZC doors must be designed to allow air flow the way the firebox manufacturer intended. Gaps between the glass and frame vents exist on ZC doors to allow for this essential airflow. All fireplace "Z" doors offered by Diamond W are designed to allow for this airflow.

What style of working doors do you want: Bifold (4) panel or Twin (2) panel? A bi-fold door opens and folds in half taking up less space on the front of your fireplace making more room for your tool set or other accessories.

A Twin door is just a different word for a double door. Twin doors take up more room when they swing open.

Within the Bi-fold and Twin category you can choose one of the following: Full View Bi-fold, Semi Full View Bi-fold, Twin and Full View Twin. Diamond W's trackless system allows for doors to open and swing freely to 180º.

For added safety, all of our custom doors come standard with inner Mesh Doors and Tempered Glass.

Always consider your home décor. Choosing a glass door for your fireplace is like buying a piece of furniture, your fireplace is the focal point of your home, and with the options we have to offer, you can create a door that compliments your home.

ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE ~
The International Code Council (ICC) publishes the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) as one of a series of model codes including The International Fuel Gas Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, and more. Section 402.4.3 of IECC 2009 states: “New wood-burning fireplaces shall have gasketed doors and outdoor combustion air.” It is, therefore, a requirement that newly constructed masonry fireplaces be equipped with gasketed doors in states that have adopted IECC 2009.
